Μαρία Χρυσοχεράκη

I was born in Darwin, Australia and took my first steps in the path of yoga in 1986. For many years I explored some of the most famous systems in yoga - Sivananda, Yoga Works (a combination of Iyengar and Ashtanga yoga) and Prana Flow Yoga with Shiva Rea. In 2002 I was fortunate enough to come across Iyengar yoga and since then I have been a dedicated practitioner and teacher. I have participated in many seminars with certified Iyengar yoga teachers: Penny Chaplin, Pam Buttler, Eyal Shifroni, Carrie Owerko, Ephrat Michelson and Shiv Sharma to name just a few. I began to teach in 2005 in gyms and studios while in 2010 I opened my own studio. That same year I did a GroovyKids teacher training course with Greville Henwood. Also from 2003 up to 2011 I was the foundress and owner of yogaonline.gr, the first online yoga magazine in Greece. Today, I am a certified Iyengar yoga teacher (Intermediate Junior 3) and I publish articles about yoga in the Greek version of “Huffington Post” and another Free Press health magazine called “Natura NRG”. In the summer of 2017 I founded Pure Yoga with the aim of offering personalized Iyengar yoga lessons on an individual level.

Restorative Yoga The Sweetest Part of our Practice

Let’s admit it: The moment that we have finished the dynamic part of our practice and we prepare for the restorative asanas is our best. These relieving and well-supported poses are offering us the opportunity to relax and enjoy the sweet side of life. Of course, ideally, and according to

A Weapon Against Stress

We often turn our attention to our breath when we climb upstairs, or when we practice yoga. But for most of the day we don’t pay attention to the way we breathe. If we get used to making quick control of our breath during the day, we can easily recognize

Some Thoughts about Upavista Konasana

When I hear the request “stretch to your limits”, I remember the time when I started practicing yoga. Long before I realize the depth that the yoga practice can have, I used to think that it was just about flexibility. So, I was pressuring my body in every way to

Why you Should Start Yoga A.S.A.P.

I am often asked about why I do yoga, why other people should do it, and what it can do for them. I started practicing yoga because it seemed challenging. In the process I realized that not only did it challenge me in a way that I didn’t expect but also

Ayurveda Α Valuable Assistant Against Stress

The sister science of yoga, Ayurveda, is a healing system that brings together basic principles of physiology, emotional state, and spiritual vision and brings them to the world. Some Thoughts about Lolasana

Lolasana (pendant) is a challenge to our hands and trunk. Many students avoid it, on the grounds that they do not have strong hands and shoulders. The truth is that, in fact, Lolasana needs not only strong hands and shoulders but also control of the trunk and back. This asana
