Chickpeas Balls or Falafel1 min read


They are the traditional taste of Middle East cuisine, coming probably from Egypt. They went along as street food or meat substitute all over the world. They are usually served into Arabic soft wrap or kind of tortija. You can find them in any organic food store, combined with mediterranean salad and humus or sauce with tahini, the famous falafel bowl, a full and very popular meal for all the vegetarians and vegans out there.


You will need:

  • 2 tea cups boiled chickpeas
  • 1 tea cup oat or millet flour or your favourite type
  • 1/2 tea cup shredded onions
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1/4 tea cup fresh basil or parslay
  • 1/4 tea cup fresh coriander
  • i lemon juice
  • lemon zest
  • 2 -3 tbsp olive oil
  • salt, pepper



  • Mix well the boiled chickpeas, shredded onions, garlic, olive oil, cumin, salt, pepper, lemon juice and jest into a big blender.
  • Place the mixture into a bowl.
  • Add the flour and the fresh herbs. Mix gently with your hands.
  • Leave the mixture to rest for 10 minutes.
  • Form small balls with your hands. Press them gently to make them wider.
  • Fry them for 2-3 minutes each side in a medium heat, in a pan with corn or sunflower oil.
  • Place them on a plate with absorbent paper in order to drain them well from the oil.

For healthier falafel with less calories, bake them into a pre heated oven at 180 degrees for 20-25 minutes.
