Cheers to chias seeds! & Recipe for Chocolate Chia Seeds Pudding2 min read

These tiny black-brown-white seeds that irritatingly stick between our teeth come from the chia plant, which is a close relative of mint and is native mostly to Mexico and Guatemala. Even though they only became famous recently, they do exist since the Aztecs and Mayan period. In fact chia is the ancient Mayan word for strength.

Chia seeds have the highest source of omega-3 fatty acids. Their fatty acids contain 60% of omega-3, 15% of omega-6, and 5% of omega-6. They are Cholesterol free and gluten-free.

They have high magnesium consistency, 15 times higher than broccoli; high iron consistency, 3 times higher than spinach; high potassium consistency, 2 times higher than a banana; and they have 6 times more calcium than milk. They can also absorb 12 times their weight in water and they become a gel that increases stomach fullness. The high fiber and protein content slows down the food absorption, reduces the appetite and food intake in the short term, and help with weight loss.

They are considered to be one of the best foods for runners, as they offer extended energy and help them with muscle recovery. Even though they are so tiny, they are a real super-food!

28 grams of chia seeds contain 11grams of fiber, 4 grams of protein, 9 grams of fat, from which 5grams are omega-3. They also contain 18% of potassium (RDI), 30% of magnesium (RDI), 27% of phosphorus (RDI), and 30% of manganese (RDI), all of which is necessary for our bones health. Moreover they are high in vitamins B1, B2, and B3. And they come only with 137 calories per 28grams.

They can be stored for long periods of time without getting oxidized or deteriorated.

You can eat them raw, blended, cooked, or as a gel with water or milk (dairy or non-dairy).

After all these, cheers to chia seeds!
